December 25, 2015

Bangladesh Navy broke their title drought by lifting the Victory Day Hockey title with a hard fought 3-2 win over Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan in the final at the Maulana Bhasani Hockey Stadium on Thursday. Defender Farhad Ahmed Situl struck the all important winner through a well-planned penalty corner in the 61st minute for Navy to provide their first-ever trophy at any level. Navy comprised of a host of national team players failed to take control of the game against BKSP.
BKSP conceded the lead against the run of play following a defensive blunder from defender Safiul Islam and Kaushik took the opportunity to put Navy ahead in the 14th minute.
BKSP levelled the margin in the 21st minute with the tournament’s top-scorer Ashraful Islam converting a penalty corner before Navy restored the lead through Roman Sarker in the 46th minute. Sohanur Rahman again brought back BKSP in the game in the 52nd minute before Situl sealed the game nine minutes later.
