October 15, 2017

Super-sub Mithun Chowdhury hit an injury time winner to help Mohammedan Sporting Club secure a dramatic 4-3 win over 10-man Brothers Union in their last match of first phase in the Bangladesh Premier League on Saturday. In the second match of the day, Team BJMC managed a convincing 3-0 win over Muktijoddha Sangshad Krira Chakra. It was BJMC’s fourth win in 11 matches that took them in sixth position with 15 points while Muktijoddha remained on 10th position with seven points.
Mithun, who came from the bench to replace Zahid Hasan Ameli in the 80th minute, struck the winner in the first minute of the five-minute added time to give Mohammedan full three points.
It was Mithun’s second successive goal in as many matches as a super-sub as the former national team forward shocked Muktijoddha Sangshad with a late goal in the previous match to secure a 2-1 win.
With the win, Mohammedan finished their first phase in fifth position with 17 points from 11 matches while Brothers were sharing the bottom place with Farashganj Sporting Club with six points.
Biplu Ahmed put Mohammedan ahead in the sixth minute of the first half when the young striker unleashed a powerful shot from the edge of the box that beat Brothers goalkeeper Kamal Hossain to find the back of the net.
But Mohammedan’s lead lasted for only five minutes when Augustine Walson converted from the spot to level the thing after Mohammedan defender Monjurur Rahman handled a ball inside the box.
Brothers went ahead for the first time in the added minutes of the first half. Receiving a ball from halfway, Mohammad Mezbah ran past his marker and entered into the box before firing a powerful shot that deflected off by Mohammedan defender Monjurur Rahman before going into the net.
Nkwocha Kingsley levelled the margin in the 58th minute sending the ball home following a pass from his compatriot Samson Illiasu.
Mohammedan restored the lead in the 67th minute when Kingsley made no mistake to convert a penalty after Akramuzzaman LIton Liton brought Ameli down inside the box and left the field following his second yellow card.
However, a 10-man Brothers returned to the game in the 79th minute following another penalty and this time Congolese Siyo Zunapio found the back of the net after Asaduzzaman Bablu brought down the Nigerian forward inside the box.
But it was MIthun who stole the light again by poking the ball home from a handshaking distance after Brothers goalkeeper Kamal blocked Kingsley’s initial header following Emrul Hasan cross.
Meanwhile, Nigerian forward Eleta Kingsley scored a brace for BJMC after Abdullah Al Mamun struck the first goal for the winners.
