Man City footballer Benjamin Mendy accused of rape and suspended by club

Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy has been suspended by his club on Thursday, after it came out that the French international has been charged with four counts of rape and one count of sexual assault by three complainants, as announced by the Cheshire Police.
The police statements adds that the charges relate to three complainants over the age of 16 and are alleged to have taken place between October 2020 and August 2021 and that criminal proceedings against Mendy are live.
Manchester city’s statement indicates that the defender is suspended ‘pending an investigation’ and that the club is unable to comment any further until the legal process is complete.
