Defending Bangladesh Premier League champions Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club thrashed Kolkata giants Mohun Bagan FC 5-3 to seal the semi-final berth in Bhutan’s King’s Cup on Thursday. Jamal became champions in their group thanks to the big win at the Changlimithang Stadium in Thimphu and will now face Manang Marshyangdi Club of Nepal in the first semi-final on November 29.
Mohun Bagan joined Jamal in the semis despite the defeat as they are ahead of fellow contenders on head-to-head count.
They will face fellow Indian club Pune FC in the second semi-final on November 30.
All five goals of Jamal came from their three overseas forwards with Emeka Darlington of Nigeria and Landing Darboe of Gambia each scored a brace while Haitian Wedson Anselme added the other one.
Jamal, who needed a draw, all but confirmed their semi-final berth in the first half when they took 3-0 lead.
Darlington put Jamal ahead in the very 3rd minute while Landing doubled the lead 12 minutes later.
Wedson made the scoreline 3-0 in the 31st minute converting a spot kick.
Jamal obtained their fourth goal through Darlington in the 54th minute before Pankaj Moula and Katsumi Yusa pulled two goals back in the space of a minute.
Landing scored his second of the day in the 63rd minute before Pierra Boya gave Mohun Bagan some consolation scoring a goal in the extra time.
