Bangladesh placed in Group A in SAG football

Bangladesh football team will find Maldives and Nepal in its Group A rivals in the impending 11th South Asian Games (SAG).
The draw of the football competitions of the SAG took place at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in the city on Tuesday.
Senior Vice President of Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) Abdus Salam Murshedi, Vice Presidents Monjoor Hossain Malu, Shawkat Ali Khan Jahangir, Kazi Nabil Ahmed, Chef-de-Mission of Bangladesh contingent for the SAG Mizanur Rahman Manu, representatives of some South Asian countries and popular television performers Nobel and Opi Karim also took part in the draw ceremony.
Bangladesh was drawn in Group A along with Maldives, Nepal and Bhutan, while the Group B comprises India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan.
The SAG football was held for the first time in the Games in 1984, when Bangladesh finished runners-up losing to the host Nepal in the final. Bangladesh won gold medal in SAG football once in 1999.
The women football has been included in the SAG for the first time in the forthcoming edition. India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal and the host Bangladesh are going to take part in the women’s football competition. The 11th SAG, the greatest sports extravaganza in South Asia, is scheduled to be held in Dhaka and some other cities across the country from January 29 to February 9, 2010.
