Ángel Di María scored the only goal of the match
Argentina beat Brazil 1 to 0 and was crowned champion of the Copa America at the Maracana stadium. After 28 years of frustrations and droughts of trophy, the Argentine National Team achieved a higher level title with a superb 1-0 victory over Brazil at the Maracana stadium, to win the fifteenthCopa América in its history.
The only goal of the match was made by Ángel Di María. The winning goal was scored by him, 21 minutes into the first half. The 33-year-old winger ran onto Rodrigo De Paul’s sumptuous through ball to lob Brazil goalkeeper Ederson with a first time finish.
For Lionel Messi, the conquest was special. It is the first time that he has won the Copa América, after having played five editions. He had lost in the finals in 2007, 2015 and 2016 and eliminated in the quarterfinal stage of 2011 .
Brazil were unchanged from their semi-final win over Peru while Scaloni made five alterations, notably bringing in Di Maria – who made an energetic and decisive entry off the bench against Colombia last time out.
