Shafiul replaces Fizz as SA add Markram

Bangladesh on Thursday added pace bowler Shafiul Islam for the reminder of their South Africa tour to replace injured Mustafizur Rahman, said the Bangladesh Cricket Board
Shafiul was scheduled to leave Dhaka to join the squad in South Africa on Thursday night while would return on October 23 to continue his recovery from an ankle injury, said the BCB.
Mustafizur suffered the injury during a training session in Kimberly on October 14 and missed the first two one-day internationals of three-match series against South Africa.
Bangladesh are trailing the hosts 0-2 in the series after two heavy defeats, which followed their 0-2 drubbing the in the preceding Test series.
The third ODI is scheduled on October 22 at East London.
Selector Habibul Bashar told New Age, Shafiul will also be part of the squad that will play two Twenty20 internationals for the ODIs
‘We will name a separate squad for T20s but Shafiul will be part of it,’ he said.
One-day skipper Mashrafee bin Murtaza is among the players expected to return after the ODI series.
Meanwhile, South Africa rested Hasim Amla for the third ODIs and replaced him with Aiden Markram, who looked certain to make his debut in East London.
Amla made 492 runs at an average of 123.00 in two Tests and two one-day internationals against Bangladesh.
Markram, 23, also made a successful Test debut against the tourists, scoring 97, 15 and 143 in his three innings.
He followed up with 82 in a one-day warm-up match for a South African Invitation team against Bangladesh ahead of the one-day internationals.
With South Africa having already won the one-day series, 19-year-old all-rounder Wiaan Mulder also looks likely to make his debut, with captain Faf du Plessis having stated after Wednesday’s series-clinching win in Paarl that South Africa were ‘looking to give a few guys opportunities’ in the dead rubber game.
