Royals knock Burners out

February 14, 2013

A late assault by Mohammad Nabi and Elton Chigumbura guided Sylhet Royals to a one-wicket win over Barisal Burners at Mirpur which virtually
ended the Burners’ campaign in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League.
Nabi made an unbeaten 16 while Chigumbura scored 19 as the Royals reached 145-9 in 19.4 overs after restricting their opponents to 144-9.
The Royals were cruising to victory at 103-4 on the back of Paul Stirling’s 42 and Mushfiqur Rahim’s 34 before a mini collapse put them into pressure but Chigumbura and Nabi pulled them out of the rut.
The loss ended the campaign of Barisal Burners as the last game against Rangpur Riders is an academic affair now. Duronto Rajshahi and Rangpur Riders are on 10 points while Barisal are on 8 points with Duronto already completing their quota of 12 matches. If the Burners win against the Riders then Duronto will be through on head-to head record as all the three teams will have the same number of points (10) while if the Riders win then they will be through with 12 points.
Earlier, the Burners were in deep trouble after being put in to bat as they were 7-3 at one stage before Brad Hodge and Sabbir Rahman (18) steadied the ship with a 52-run stand for the fourth wicket.
Hodge made the highest score for his side with 48 off 40 balls that included seven fours and a six while Alok remained unbeaten after a 16-ball 34 with the help of four boundaries and a six.
Elias Sunny chipped in with a quickfire 20 while part-time left-arm spinner Mominul Haque was the most successful bowler for the Royals with 2-14.
