India pay for win over West Indies
West Indies bowlers were pouring out their heart to the defence of a low 182, and it was paying off too as they brought India down on their knees in the World Cup match at Perth.
It looked like the Caribbeans came out with a well laid plan to bowl short and use the evening conditions against India. Added swing proved the chase tougher for India.
Jerome Taylor and Andre Russel claimed two wickets each while Kemar Roach and Dwayne Smith took one wicket apiece.
Earlier in play, Jason Holder played a captain’s knock and heaved West Indies to a ‘decent’ total of 182 against a spell of Indian dominance today.
Going on a slide after winning the toss and choosing bat, West Indies looked unlikely to make 120 before Holder arrived at crease at sixth-down and struck a career best of 57.
For India, the day was of dominance over West Indies, what could have been complete without a few dropped catches, being able to bowl Caribbeans out before the 50 overs.
Mohammad Shami took three wickets for India, Umesh Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja picked two each and Ravichandran Ashwin along with Mohit Sharma one apiece.
Defending champion India are currently placed atop the Pool B. They will look to cement their quarterfinal place and continue the winning streak with a win in this match.
West Indies, on the other hand, have had a dismal start to the tournament with an Ireland upset. Placed third in the group, West Indies will not want to leave their quarterfinal dream to the run rate calculations with a loss in this match.
