No rule on addressing govt officials as ‘sir/ madam’: State minister

September 7, 2021

There is no rule that mandates that a government official must be addressed as “sir” or “madam”, State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain said today.
“I’ve repeatedly said that misconduct is tantamount to corruption,” he said while replying to a question at a ‘meet the press’ event organized byBangladesh Secretariat Reporters Forum at the Secretariat.
The state minister said a person must have welcoming attitude. “If he or she gets angry, it is corruption,” he said.
“You (government officials) must demonstrate conduct staying within the laws and serve the public with utmost efforts… Your behaviour represents the government,” Farhad said.
He urged the government officials to be more people-friendly and humanitarian.
