Christmas today

December 25, 2009

Christmas Day, the greatest religious festival of the Christian community, will be celebrated in the country today as elsewhere in the world with due solemnity and traditional enthusiasm in commemoration of the birth of Jesus Christ.
To mark the day, the Christian community will offer special prayers in different churches throughout the country. The day is a public holiday.
The churches will be decorated with colourful lights and illuminated X’mas trees will be placed with a star standing right on top.
Santa Claus will hand over Christmas presents to children. Family gatherings will take place and a Christmas Day feast will be held.
President Mohammad Zillur Rahman, prime minister Sheikh Hasina and leader of the opposition in parliament and Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia have greeted the Christian community on the occasion.
Meanwhile fool proof security measures are in force in the capital city and divisional and district headquarters for a peaceful celebration of the festival since Thursday night.
Newspapers have published special supplements while state run Bangladesh Betar and television BTV and private television channels are putting out special programmes highlighting the significance of the day.
