RU lost 187 academic days

Feb 26: Rajshahi University (RU), had lost 187 academic days in the last year in various incidents specially student violence. Among the 187 days two bloody clashes between Islami Chhatra Shibir and Bangladesh Chhatra League, summer vacation and so on.
As a result the university losses about Taka 2.33 crore while it has been paying for salary and wages without receiving any service. Classes were held only 178 days this year due to a long-drawn stalemate caused by clashes and occurrences.
Classes will remain suspended until Dec 31on various occasions such as Ramzan, Shab-e-qadr, Martyred intellectuals day Victory day, Eid-ul-Fitr and Christmas day and Eid-ul-Azha. The university was closed for above 100 days on various occasions including last summer vacation, Eid-ul-Fitr, and Eid-ul-Azha. Moreover Rajshahi University (RU) was closed indefinitely after killing a leader of Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS) and injuring 40 others in the clash with Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) on March 13, 2009. As a result of the bloody clash the university remain closed sine die for 80 days and that reopened on June 01, 2009.
The present situation of the campus is not very well as all the students yet to return. The classes and the exams are not properly held till now after a fierce battle between ICS-BCL cadres on February 8. The University authority has been trying to bring normalcy on the campus.
The Vice Chancellor Professor M Abdus Sobhan said, the students had started to return to the campus and the classes and exams will begin soon.
Huge number of law enforcers have been deployed on campus to ensure the security of the students he added.
