Dhaka Fashion Week kicks off tomorrow

Dhaka Fashion Week 2010, a two day event, begins tomorrow (June 4) at 7:00 pm at Dhaka Club. Fourteen eminent fashion houses of Bangladesh will display their exclusive summer collections at the event. ‘Forty prominent models will scorch the ramps clad with wide-ranging apparels including sari, salwar-kameez, panjabi, fatua , tribal wear and fusion made of muslin, cotton, chiffon, silk fabrics,’ said fashion show director Kawshiki Nasser Tupa. ‘Bright colours and light hand-works will be embedded on the apparels,’ Tupa added.
Tupa, also the president of Dhaka Fashion Week will be choreographing the fashion show with the assistance of two other aspiring ramp models Nila Marma and Bulbul Tumpa.
Well-known ramp models including Emi, Ruma, Nila, Tumpa, Zamshed and Asif Khan, among others will strut along with background scores featuring folk and Bengali songs.
On the first day of the fashion week, the fashion houses Sadakalo, Jatra, Anjan’s, Mansha, Roxana Salam, Mansha, Fortuna and B-Plus’s apparels will be presented. The second day, comprising the Grand Finale, will be held at the Westin Dhaka on June 5 at 7:00pm.
Executive director Fakrul Chowdhury stated that the objective of Dhaka Fashion Week is to uphold the domestic apparels in the international arena and to make Dhaka a leading fashion hub within the next five years in South Asia. ‘Dhaka Fashion Week, a communication solution firm, is organizing the event in association with Dhaka Club and Westin Dhaka,’ said the organizers, at a press briefing held at the Dhaka Club on Wednesday.
