UCB marks 27 years of banking

United Commercial Bank Limited, one of the oldest private banks in the country, celebrated its 27th anniversary on Tuesday.
Officials of the bank, in a press meet in the city’s Sheraton Hotel, asserted that the institution was looking forward to expand its financial activities in the coming years.
The bank’s deputy managing director, Mirza Mahmud Rafiqur Rahman, said UCB would open eight new branches and two SME centres across the country by 2010.
Rafiqur Rahman disclosed that the bank’s current deposit was more than Tk 9,000 crore while the operating profit was summed about Tk 225 crore.
The bank officials also declared that the bank in a few months time would hold the remaining annual general meetings, which had been due over the last few years.
The bank’s managing director M Shahjahan Bhuiyan said that the institution was looking forward to contributing to the country’s economy by enhancing its schemes on small and medium enterprises financing and retail banking.
