The prices of broiler, gram and red lentil increased in the capital’s kitchen markets over the week ending Friday. Traders said the prices of the commodities increased due to their increasing demand. The price of broiler increased by Tk 10 a kilogram and the item was selling at Tk 150-Tk 160 a kg on Friday. Abul Bashar, a trader at Hatirpool kitchen market, told New Age on Friday that the price of broiler decreased in last two weeks as the demand for the item decreased due to sultry weather.
‘Now the consumers have started to come back to the broiler shop for the last couple of days as weather has been changed’, he said.
The prices of gram and imported red lentil increased by Tk 5 a kg over the week and the items was selling at Tk 60-Tk 65 a kg and Tk 85-Tk 90 a kg respectively while the local item was retailing at Tk 110 a kg.
Habibur Rahman, a trader at Rampura kitchen market, said that the demand for gram and red lentil increased in the market as the consumers were buying the items in large quantity ahead of the fasting month of Ramadan for the Muslims.
‘Due to increasing demand the prices of the items rose in the wholesale market and that’s why the retail prices also went up,’ he said.
The prices of vegetables remained stable over the week.
Aubergine increased to Tk 40 a kg from Tk 30 a kg, bitter gourd to Tk 40 a kg from Tk 30 a kg, cucumber to Tk 30 a kg from Tk 25 a kg, papaya to Tk 40 a kg from Tk 30 a kg, carrot to Tk 60 a kg from Tk 50 a kg and tomato to Tk 50 a kg from Tk 40 a kg over the week.
Aubergine, bitter gourd, cucumber, papaya, carrot, tomato, okra, ribbed gourd, sponge gourd, teasle gourd, snake gourd and palwal were selling at Tk 40 a kg, Tk 35 a kg, Tk 30 a kg, Tk 40 a kg, Tk 60 a kg, Tk 50 a kg Tk 30 a kg, Tk 40 a kg, Tk 35 a kg, Tk 50 a kg, Tk 40 a kg and Tk 30 a kg respectively on Friday.
Green chilli price remained unchanged and the item was retailing at Tk 60-Tk 70 a kg on Friday.
The price of sugar remained unchanged and it was selling at Tk 48-Tk 51a kg on the day.
The prices of palm and super palm oil remained unchanged and the items were selling at Tk 78-Tk 82 a litre and Tk 83-Tk 87 a litre on Friday.
Bottled soya bean oil price, however, remained stable and it was selling
at Tk 550-Tk 560 a five-litre container. Unpacked soya bean oil was retailing at Tk 108-Tk 112 a kg on the day.
The price of onion remained unchanged and the item was selling at Tk 35 a kg over the week while the imported onion was retailing at Tk 28-Tk 30 a kg.
Potato price remained unchanged and the item was retailing at Tk 18-Tk 20 a kg on Friday.
The price of egg remained unchanged and the item was selling at Tk 28 a hali (four pieces) over the week.
The price of garlic remained unchanged and the item was selling at Tk 80 a kg on Friday.
Ginger price decreased a bit and the imported ginger was selling at Tk 200-Tk 240 a kg on Friday.
Fish prices also remained stable over the week.
Rohita was selling at Tk 180-Tk 300 a kg on Friday, pangas at Tk 120-Tk 150 a kg and tilapia at Tk 150-Tk 180 a kg, depending on their size and quality.
The prices of mutton and beef remained stable over the week.
Mutton was selling at Tk 420-Tk 450 a kg while beef was selling at Tk 270-Tk 280 a kg.
The fine varieties of miniket were selling at Tk 48-Tk 50 a kg while the coarse varieties were retailing at Tk 44-Tk 46 a kg on Friday.
The fine varieties of BR-28 were selling at Tk 42-Tk 44 a kg and the coarse varieties of parija were selling at Tk 38-Tk 40 a kg.
