Eksho Bosta Chal visits Netrakona, KishoreganjEksho Bosta Chal, a joint theatre production by Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy and the embassy of Japan in Dhaka, was staged yesterday at Netrakona District Shilpakala Academy. The play will see another staging at Kishoreganj District Shilpakala Academy today. The play is an adaptation of a famous Japanese play by Yuzo Yamamoto and has been translated in Bangla by noted theatre personality Abdus Selim, and directed by Golam Sarwar. Eksho Bosta Chal depicts the social changes in the early-Meiji era in Japan through a story involving one hundred sacks of rice. The government commissioned the rice for the samurais. The chief advisor Kobayashi Torasaburo, however, wants to sell the rice and set up a school for children with the money.
Initially, the samurais oppose the chief advisor, but the latter’s wisdom and convinces the samurais to support him. The play, thereby, progresses with weaving a dream for the future of a nation by sacrificing present comforts.
Apart from emphasising the patience of Japanese people, the play also gives a glimpse of ancient culture and customs of the country.
A group of actors including Junaid Eusuf, Md. Nur Zaman Raja, Md. Rafi, Abul Kalam Azad, Faiz Zahir, Tashmi Tamanna and Joyita Maholanbish are performing in the play.
