TT players threaten boycott

April 28, 2010

Top table tennis players have threatened to boycott the upcoming Federation Cup following federation’s decision not to send a team to the World Cup in Moscow, Russia.
The executive meeting on Monday cancelled its scheduled tour to Russia citing financial constrains though it was learnt that the meeting scrapped the tour to avoid criticism following a report published on a national daily. The report lambasted the contingent that comprised seven officials including state minister for youth and sports, the youth and sports secretary and only three players.
Manosh, a table-tennis player who was supposed to take part in the World Cup, was very disappointed with the decision of the federation and questioned why the players would suffer as they were not responsible for the controversy.
He and other players including Shahed, Ripon, Tuhin and Rimon have vowed not to take part in the season’s curtain-raising tournament, the Federation Cup.
Manosh, Hamlet and Mahbub were scheduled to leave here for Moscow on May 21.
