A dejected Bangladesh Under-19 football team, who lost to India in the semi-final of the Inaugural SAFF Under-19 championship in Nepal, arrived home on Sunday and blamed their fate for the result they achieved. Bangladesh coach Saiful Bari claimed that he was forced to adopt a defensive approach in the game due to the absence of their in-form midfielder Biplu Ahmed due to illness.
‘Absence of Biplu [Ahmed] forced us to play with defensive approach,’ said the coach after arriving here on Sunday evening.
Bangladesh altered their earlier formation of 4-3-3 to a more defensive approach of 5-4-1 and as a result could not produce any substantial attack.
Bangladesh captain Mashuk Mia Jony also accused poor referring for the result.
He claimed the re-shot decision of India’s fourth penalty shot, which was initially blocked by the Bangladeshi keeper changed the course of the tie-break that they were leading till then.
