Newcomers Banshundhara Kings made their debut in top-level football in an emphatic manner as they came from behind twice to beat fallen giants Mohammedan Sporting Club 5-2 in their opening match of the Federation Cup at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Monday.
Gambian forward Landing Darboe gave Mohammedan the lead twice but star-studded Kings put immense pressure to register a big win thanks to a brace from Brazilian forward Marcos Da Silva.
Costa Rica playmaker Denial Colindres, Spanish defender Gotor Blas and local striker Motin Miah netted the other three goals for Kings.
Mohammedan took the lead in the 18th minute when Nigerian forward Kingsley Chigozi darted into the right corner of the box and provided an angular pass to Landing, who tapped home past Kings’ keeper Mitul Hasan.
Colindres, Kings’ World Cup playing player, levelled the margin in the 28th minute converting a penalty after Mohammedan defender Montu Sheikh brought down Kings’ winger Mohammad Ibrahim inside the box.
Landing restored the black and whites lead in the 66th minute converting a penalty but the lead sustained only for five minutes when Blas placed the ball home following a free-kick from Colindres.
Substitute forward Motin gave Kings the lead in the 78th minute firing home from the left corner of the box after Ibrahim provided him a square pass.
Da Silva completed the rout by scoring two goals in the injury time with Colindres the provider on both the occasions.
