Nat’l poetry festival begins Saturday

The 28th National Poetry Festival will begin on the Dhaka University campus at 9:00am on Saturday with the slogan ‘Kabita Sahena Danab Jatana.’
Poet Syed Shamsul Huq will inaugurate the two-day programme in front of the DU central library, organised by the National Poetry Council.About 300 poets and writers from home and abroad are expected to attend the programme, the festival convener, poet Muhammad Samad said at a press conference on Thursday.
Some 30 poets and writers from India, Nepal and Bhutan, Italy, Syria, Australia and the US would join the two-day festival. A large number of Bangladeshi expatriate poets will also participate, he said.
The festival features a wide range of programmes, including recitation of poems, songs on Ekushey February, seminar and photo exhibition on poets and poetry.
A procession, led by poets and writers of Bangladesh and India, will set out from the venue towards the graves of the national poet, Kazi Nazrul Islam, and artists Zainul Abedin and Quamrul Hassan where the marchers will place wreaths.
Among others, National Poetry Council president poet Habibullah Siraji and general secretary Aslam Sani, among others, were present at the press conference.
The council has been holding the festival since 1987.
